5 Best Idiot Characters in Movies and TV

Every hero needs a sidekick, but nowadays, the heroes seem to be the idiot characters who never actually help when help is needed, and instead just make for a good laugh. Audiences seem to enjoy these types of characters, so much that they even made a movie about two dumb best friends, “Dumb and Dumber”. In the film, Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels play Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne, two adults and best friends who have the intelligence and maturity levels of teenage boys packed into two dorky man bodies. The two set out on a cross-country adventure, where their stupidity becomes a weapon as one dumb decision resolves another dumb decision in an endless cycle of stupidity. Since the first movie premiered in 1994, more idiot characters have been stealing the spotlight in both TV and film.

Another popular character deemed an idiot is Andy Dwyer from “Parks and Recreation”. In the first season, Andy was a lazy rock-star wannabe who broke his leg trying to get a toaster out of a gigantic pit. Another clear example of Andy’s stupidity shines during a mock trial in which Leslie needs volunteers to represent different countries. When she asks Andy if he’d be Iceland, he responds, “The bad guys from Mighty Ducks 2? Don't think so.” Then she offers Japan, to which he replies, “The bad guys from Karate Kid 2? Even worse. Then, he finally settles on Germany, “They’ve never been the bad guys.” What would we do and where would TV be without these idiot characters like Andy Dwyer?

NBA players aren't scientific experts, as evidenced most recently by Boston Celtics player Kyrie Irving's belief that the Earth is flat. But now another NBA player is casting doubt on space expeditions, and NASA is trying to fix it. Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry appeared on a podcast recently when somehow the topic turned to the moon landing.
