11 Budtenders Share The Worst Strain Names

Cat Piss, Cheese, and Alaskan Thuderfuck, are just some of the cannabis strains that budtenders deem the worst names. There are more strains available than ever before, now that weed is legal in all of Canada and a number of states in the US. Now, growers are creating new strains daily, which also requires a creative name daily, so many are thinking of the most bizarre to attract consumers. With more strains and names on the shelf, cannabis dispensaries are becoming more overwhelming for a first-time cannabis consumer, which makes budtenders all the more useful. A budtender is the person behind the counter at a cannabis dispensary, there to help consumers choose which cannabis strains and products are best for their wants and needs. Every dispensary is different with different strains, so budtenders are a valuable resource for both new and old consumers searching for the perfect cannabis product.

Civilized sat down with budtenders from all over Los Angeles to learn about cannabis culture and dispensaries in our weekly series Ask A Budtender. In this episode of the series, the budtenders discuss the worst strain names they've seen in the industry.

Few other entrepreneurs in the cannabis space have their hands in quite as many ventures as Lorne Gertner. Currently dubbed the "godfather of the Canadian cannabis industry," Gertner told Civilized, "If we could live through normalization, we could change the world." Hailing from the fashion industry, this Toronto native says he's on a mission to "make the world a better place through cannabis and design excellence." The only catch is, well, normalizing cannabis — and that's where Gertner's keen eye for style comes in. "In the old days, you were going to be different or you were going to be normal," said Thom Antonio, Gertner's friend, creative director, and collaborator of 35 years.
